Aim: The aim of modem orthodontic treatments is to improve facial esthetics as well as dental occlusion and create an attractive smile. The purpose of the present study was to assess lip line in deep bite patients in comparison to the normal situation.Materials and methods: Twenty young (18-24 years) females with anterior deep bite (vertical overlap of upper teeth was more than one third of lower teeth height) participated in this study. Two Standard photographs in frontal view were taken in rest position and posed smile. Incisor show was measured in these two gestures in photoshop program. Descriptive statistical methods were used to analyze data. Results: The average incisor show in our deep bite patients was 76.5% of central tooth crown total height. In 35% of our patients less than 70% of the incisor height was exposed during posed smile, and in 75% of the cases incisor teeth were not seen in rest position. Conclusion: Incisor show was less than minimum level of smile attractiveness in 35% of deep bite patients and the incisors were not seen at rest in 75% of these patients.

Aim: There are significant differences in morphological features of various racial and ethnic groups. The purpose of the present study was to identify cephalometric norms of Tweed diagnostic facial triangle in North East adolescents of Iran and to evaluate the effect of sexual dimorphism on cephalometric criteria of this population.Materials and methods: The sample comprised lateral cephalograms taken in natural head position of 40 pupils with normal occlusion (20 girls, 20 boys). Tweed diagnostic triangle was traced on each cephalogram and its angles were measured to the nearest 0.5°. The data were analyzed by SPSS software using independent samples t-tests and liotelling's test .Results: The lower incisors were significantly more proclined and mandibular plane was significantly steeper in north eastern Iranians compared to Caucasians (p<0.00 ). The average FMIA angle was significantly smaller than 65° as proposed by Tweed (p<0.001). There was no statistical difference in mean values of the three angles between boys and girls (p>0.05).Conclusion: There are significant differences in cephalometric norms of Tweed triangle between Iranians and Caucasians, showing important implications in orthodontic treatment planning. With respect to the significant differences in cephalometric norms of Iranians and Caucasians, it seems necessary to use standards of each racial group for orthodontic diagnosis and treatment of malocclusions in that population.

Aim: Application of light cure composites has become very popular in orthodontics. The aim of this study was to compare shear bond strength (SBS) of Ideal Maccoo and Vit L-essence light cure composites in bracket bonding after thermocycling.
Materials and Methods: 100 intact freshly extracted upper first premolars were randomly assigned into four equal groups. In the first and second group Vit L-essence composite was applied to the bracket base and transferred to buccal enamel surface and cured for 40 seconds. In the third and fourth group Ideal Maccoo composite was used for bracket bonding. After 24 hours the teeth in the first and third group were thermocycled between 5 to 55°C and then debonding was performed by Zwick testing machine. The mean shear bond strength of four groups was compared by ANOVA test.
Results: There was no significant difference between Vit L-essence and Ideal Maccoo composite either before or after thermo cycling. SBS also did not differ significantly before and after thermo cycling in each single group.
Conclusion: It was concluded that: 1-Therrnocycling did not affect the SBS of Vit-Lessence and Ideal Maccoo composite in bracket bonding. 2- There was no significant difference in SBS of Vit L-essence and Ideal Maccoo composite either before or after themocycling (DO 2006; 1:168-71).
